Drew Miles
After receiving undergraduate degrees in Physics, Astronomy, and Accounting at the University of Iowa, I moved to Penn State in 2016 to pursue a PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics. My research focuses on both reflection gratings (fabrication and performance verification) and the application of gratings in science instruments. A major component of my thesis work will be the design and launch of a suborbital rocket payload currently dubbed The Rocket for Extended X-ray Spectroscopy (TREXS). TREXS is a soft X-ray spectrometer that will study the diffuse emission from supernova remnants. When not working, I enjoy outdoor activities when weather permits, or cowering inside from the cold from November through March.
